Margarites chappelli was named by Durham (1944). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP A3702, east of Port Hadlock, which is in a Priabonian marine sandstone in the Quimper Formation of Washington.
It was recombined as Margarites (Margarites) chappelli by Hickman (1980).
