Des dents aux deux mâchoires, pouvant manquer sur les prémaxillaires; écailles ventrales un peu plus grandes que les dorsales; queue très courte; un bassin rudimentaire; membres postérieurs représentés par un éperon corné de chaque côté de l'anus; yeux très petits, nus ou couverts par une plaque transparente.
