Aversor dmitrievi was named by Gubin (1985). Its type specimen is PIN 570/50, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Inta city, PIN 570, PIN 3950, which is in an Ufimian terrestrial shale/sandstone in the Inta Formation of the Russian Federation.
