Taxonomy
Aigialosaurus was named by Kramberger (1892) [Sepkoski's age data: K Turo Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. Its type is Aigialosaurus dalmaticus. It is the type genus of Aigialosauridae.
It was assigned to Squamata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Aigialosauridae by McDowell and Bogert (1954), Carroll (1988), Carroll and DeBraga (1992), Bell and Polcyn (2005), Dutchak and Caldwell (2006), Dutchak and Caldwell (2009).
