Taxonomy
Keichousaurus was named by Young (1958) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Anis Sepkoski's reference number: 1044]. It is the type genus of Keichousauridae.

It was assigned to Keichousauridae by Kuhn (1966); to Pachypleuridae by Carroll (1988); to Pachypleurosauroidea by Rieppel and Lin (1995); to Pachypleurosauridae by Rieppel (2000); and to Notosauria by Sepkoski (2002).
