Taxonomy
Ammonites spitiensis was named by Blanford (1863). It is the type species of Spiticeras (Spiticeras).

It was recombined as Spiticeras (Spiticeras) spitiense by Howarth (1998); it was recombined as Spiticeras (Spiticeras) spitiensis by Dochev et al. (2017).
