It was assigned to Streptospondylidae by von Huene (1951); to Leptopterygiidae by Carroll (1988); to Ophthalmosauria by Motani (1999); to Leptonectidae by Maisch and Matzke (2000); to Ichthyosauria by Sepkoski (2002); and to Ophthalmosauridae by McGowan and Motani (2003), Maisch (2010).
