Utatsusaurus
Taxonomy
Utatsusaurus was named by Shikama and Kamei (1978) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen-u Sepkoski's reference number: 746]. Its type is Utatsusaurus hataii. It was considered monophyletic by Motani (1999).
It was assigned to Omphalosauridae by Shikama and Kamei (1978); to Ichthyopterygia by Motani (1999), Sander (2000); to Ichthyosauria by Motani et al. (1998), Maisch and Matzke (2000), Sepkoski (2002); to Utatsusauridae by McGowan and Motani (2003), Maisch (2010); and to Grippoidea by Ji et al. (2016).
It was assigned to Omphalosauridae by Shikama and Kamei (1978); to Ichthyopterygia by Motani (1999), Sander (2000); to Ichthyosauria by Motani et al.
