Cucullaea lirata

Taxonomy

Cucullaea lirata was named by Packard (1922). Its type specimen is UCMP 12314 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP loc. 2149, Santa Ana Mountains, which is in a Turonian marine horizon in the Ladd Formation of California.

It was recombined as Cucullaea (Idonearca) lirata by Anderson (1958).

Diagnosis

Reference	Diagnosis
E. L. Packard 1922	Shell large, elongate, inequilateral. Anterior extremity short, evenly rounded; posterior extremity pointed (?), accentuated by a prominent umbonal ridge; ventral margin straight . Umbones small, widely separated by a dorsal area. Posterior dorsal area flat . Shell sculptured by numerous radial striae and prominent cocentric growth lines. Hinge line short, with dentition typical of the genus. Height, 53 mm.; length, 75 mm.; convexity, 28 mm.
