Taxonomy
Janira welwitschi was named by Choffat (1888). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Dombe-Grande (unknown level), which is in a Cenomanian marine sandstone in Angola.

It was recombined as Neithea welwitschi by Dartevelle and Freneix (1957).
