Fissispongia was named by King (1938) [Sepkoski's age data: C Mosc-u P Guad-l Sepkoski's reference number: 2,203]. It is not extant. Its type is Fissispongia jacksboroensis.
It was assigned to Pharetronida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Fissispongiidae by Rigby et al. (2008).
