Hartmanina was named by Dieci et al. (1974) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Carn-l Sepkoski's reference number: 205].

It was assigned to Pharetronida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Catenispongiidae by Finks et al. (2004), Senowbari-Daryan and Rigby (2011).
