Eryopoidea was named by Säve-Söderbergh (1935). It is not extant. It was considered monophyletic by Yates and Warren (2000).

It was assigned to Temnospondyli by Haubold (1971); to Temnospondylia by Haubold (1974); to Temnospondyli by Carroll (1988); to Euskelia by Yates and Warren (2000); and to Temnospondyli by Shishkin et al. (2000).
