Bashkirosaurus was named by Gubin (1981) [spelled Baschkirosaurus in Gubin (1997); not clear whether this is a misspelling or the original spelling]. It is not extant. Its type is Bashkirosaurus tcherdyncevi.
It was assigned to Archegosauridae by Carroll (1988), Gubin (1997), Shishkin et al. (2000); and to Platyoposaurinae by Schoch and Milner (2000).
