Taxonomy
Laidleria was named by Kitching (1957). Its type is Laidleria gracilis. It is the type genus of Laidleriidae.
It was assigned to Trematosauridae by Kitching (1957); to Rhytidosteidae by Warren and Black (1985), Carroll (1988) and Marsicano and Warren (1998); to Plagiosauroidea by Yates and Warren (2000); to Rhytidosteinae by Schoch and Milner (2000); to Laidleriidae by Warren (1998) and Damiani and Rubidge (2003); and to Trematosauria by Schoch (2013).
