Taxonomy

Mahavisaurus was named by Lehman (1966). It is not extant. Its type is Mahavisaurus dentatus.

It was assigned to Rhinesuchoidea by Lehman (1966); to Rhytidosteidae by Warren and Black (1985); to Indobrachyopidae by Cosgriff and Zawiskie (1979), Carroll (1988); and to Peltosteginae by Schoch and Milner (2000).

Synonyms

Lyrosaurus was named by Lehman (1966).

It was synonymized subjectively with Mahavisaurus by Schoch and Milner (2000).

It was assigned to Trematosauria by Lehman (1966); and to Trematosauridae by Carroll (1988).
