Taxonomy
Plagiosaurus was named by Jaekel (1914). It is the type genus of Plagiosauroidea, Plagiosauridae, Plagiosaurinae.
It was assigned to Brachyopidae by Watson (1919); to Plagiosauridae by Kuhn (1971), Carroll (1988); and to Plagiosaurinae by Schoch and Milner (2014).
