Utegenia was named by Kuznetsov and Ivakhnenko (1981). It is not extant. Its type is Utegenia shpinari.
It was assigned to Discosauriscidae by Carroll (1988); to Seymouriamorpha by Laurin (1996); and to Utegeniidae by Bulanov (2003).
