Taxonomy
Dendraster sullivani was named by Durham and Morgan (1978). Its type specimen is UCMP 14450, a test, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is San Gregorio Beach, which is in a Pliocene marine sandstone in the Purisima Formation of California.
