Taxonomy
Girtyocoelia was named by Cossman (1909). It is not extant. It is the type genus of Girtyocoeliidae.
It was assigned to Celyphiidae by Rigby and Potter (1986), Rigby et al. (1988); to Permosphincta by Senowbari-Daryan and Ingavat-Helmcke (1994); to Girtyocoeliidae by Finks et al. (2004), Rigby et al. (2008); and to Enoplocoeliinae by Senowbari-Daryan and Rigby (2015).
