Taxonomy
Parophisaurus mccloskeyi was named by Weems (1999). Its type specimen is USNM 498662 (left dentary) and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Fisher/Sullivan Site, which is in a Ypresian coastal sandstone in the Nanjemoy Formation of Virginia.
