Taxonomy
Pteria howei was named by Nelson (1925). Its type specimen is UC 30515, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP Loc. 3767, Runkle Canyon, which is in a Selandian/Ypresian marine horizon in the Santa Susana Formation of California.
