Taxonomy
Metacerithium packardi was named by Nelson (1925). Its type specimen is UC 30495, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP loc. 4010, Maier Canyon, Simi Hills, which is in a Thanetian marine siliciclastic in the Santa Susana Formation of California.
