Blastulospongia was named by Pickett and Jell (1983) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Tomm-l Cm Dres-l Sepkoski's reference number: 652,1030]. It is not extant. Its type is Blastulospongia monothalamos.
It was assigned to Calcarea by Sepkoski (2002); to Colospongiinae by Senowbari-Daryan and Rigby (2015); and to Foraminifera by Kouchinsky et al. (2017).
