Taxonomy
Gerontomyces lepidotus was named by Poinar (2016). Its type specimen is Myc-2 and is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic Amber (Bone Room collection), which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in the Russian Federation. It is the type species of Gerontomyces.
