Corymbospongia was named by Rigby and Potter (1986) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara-l O Ashg Sepkoski's reference number: 652]. It is not extant. Its type is Corymbospongia adnata.
It was assigned to Cystothalamiidae by Rigby and Potter (1986) and Rigby et al. (1988); to Calcarea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Corymbospongiinae by Finks et al. (2004) and Rigby et al. (2008).
