Taxonomy
Pleurocystites watkinsi was named by Strimple (1948). Its type specimen is USNM 4640 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bromide Formation, Rock Crossing, Criner Hills, Carter County, Oklahoma, which is in the Blackriveran of horizon the Bromide Formation Oklahoma.

It was recombined as Praepleurocystis watkinsi by Paul (1967) and Parsley (1982).
