Taxonomy
Pleurocystites strimplei was named by Brower (1999) [= Pleurocystites sp. cf. P. squamosus Billings. Kolata 1975, p. 15, pl. 1, figs. 1-6. = Pleurocystites sp. aff. P. squamosus Billings. Kolata, Brower & Frest 1987, p. 181.]. Its type specimen is SUI 80258 and is a 3D body fossil.

J. C. Brower 1999Thecal outline variable; relatively low width: length ratio; rectal lobe moderately developed. Abanal thecal plates smooth or with a few fine ridges. Three pectinirhombs present; dichopores numerous; pectinirhombs on L3-L4 and B2- IL2 occupy intermediate amounts of plate sutures; L3-L4 and L1-L2 sutures well inside thecal margins; pectinirhombs not strongly protuberant, with weak marginal rims. Periproct plates small and irregular, smooth; anal opening away from marginal rim. Proximal column of moderate length and taper.
