Taxonomy
Echinocyamus petalus was named by Kier (1964). Its type specimen is USNM 563446 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Eniwetok atoll, core E1, 2910-2920ft, which is in a Priabonian perireef or subreef limestone in the Marshall Islands.
