It was assigned to Batrachia by Cope (1885); to Batrachia by Cope (1886); to Proganosauria by Baur (1887); to Proganosauria by Seeley (1892); and to Mesosauridae by Stromer (1914), Oelofsen and Araujo (1987), Carroll (1988), Rossmann (2000).
