Cidarites pseudodiadema was named by Lamarck (1816). It is the type species of Pseudodiadema.

It was recombined as Diadema pseudodiadema by Wright (1851); it was recombined as Pseudodiadema pseudodiadema by Fell and Pawson (1966).
