Dipnorhynchiformes - Chirodipteridae

Taxonomy
Pillararhynchus longi was named by Campbell and Barwick (1990) [The genus is characterized by the following combination of features: external dermal bones are cosmine covered; bone B elongate, extending almost as far forwards as the posterior of the orbits; paired C's separated by an elongate median bone; palate deeply concave; dentine plates elongate, sunken between the pterygoids posteriorly, and with five poorlydefined rows of transversely elongate tubercles on the anterior half of each plate; dentine similar to that of the tooth plates on the anterior part of the parasphenoid; median anterior plate isolated. Mandible with angular anterior outline on the dentary; only two infradentaries on each side; dentine plates sutured in the mid-line, posteriorly drawn out to an acute angle, and with six rows of tuberosities; suprameckelian vacuity small, but preglenoid process very large and rugose; adsymphysial plate isolated; lingual furrow restricted. Elements of the shoulder girdle and the hyoid and gill arches are also known. A more complete description will be published elsewhere.]. Its type specimen is WAM 86-9-695, a skull (Skull and mandible), and it is a 3D body fossil.
