Globulocystites rotundatus
Taxonomy
Globulocystites rotundatus was named by Frest et al. (1979). Its type specimen is SUI 44438 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Rye Cove, Clinchport, which is in an Ashbyan transition zone/lower shoreface packstone/grainstone in the Benbolt Formation of Virginia. It is the type species of Globulocystites.

T. J. Frest et al. 1979 | Globulocystites with strongly inflated, nearly spherical theca with circular profile and broadly oval cross section. Arms unequal, right arm does not reach column; calluses narrow, not strongly protruded from theca. Thecal plating: P1-P9, A1-A6, paired A7, A8, and A9, R2-R5, L1-L3, three BB, variable number of intercalates (average seven) on right side. Ornament: coarse pustules on immature and most adult specimens, thin irregular ridges and pustules on gerontic individuals. |
