Mastodonsaurus cappelensis

Taxonomy

Mastodonsaurus cappelensis was named by Wepfer (1923). It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Kappel, which is in an Anisian terrestrial horizon in Germany.

It was recombined as Parotosaurus cappelensis by Kuhn (1971); it was recombined as Heptasaurus cappelensis by Schoch (1999).

Synonyms

Mastodonsaurus ingens was named by Trusheim (1937). It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Heptasaurus cappelensis by Schoch and Werneburg (1999).
Cyclotosaurus mechernichensis was named by Jux and Pflug (1958). It is not extant. Its type locality is Eifel Mountains, near Mechernich, which is in an Anisian terrestrial sandstone in Germany.

It was synonymized subjectively with Heptasaurus cappelensis by Schoch and Werneburg (1999).
