Echinobrissus texanus was named by Clark (1891). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS 768, Austin, which is in a Coniacian carbonate chalk in the Austin Chalk Formation of Texas.
It was recombined as Nucleopygus texanus by Cooke (1953).
