Taxonomy
Hemiaster humphreysanus was named by Meek and Hayden (1856). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Yellowstone River, 150 miles above mouth, which is in a Maastrichtian marine shale in the Pierre Shale Formation of Montana.
