Blastulospongia monothalamos was named by Pickett and Jell (1983). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Gnalta, Broken Hill, which is in an Ordian carbonate limestone in the Coonigan Formation of Australia. It is the type species of Blastulospongia.
