Taxonomy
Oplurus was named by Cuvier (1829) [also said to be Duméril and Bibron 1837]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Opluridae.
It was assigned to Iguanidae by Estes (1983), Carroll (1988), Frank and Ramus (1996); and to Opluridae by Conrad et al. (2007).
