Arpadosaurus was named by Meszoely (1970). Its type is Arpadosaurus gazinorum.
It was assigned to Melanosaurini by Estes (1983); to Glyptosaurinae by Meszoely (1970), Sullivan (1986); and to Anguidae by Carroll (1988).
