Taxonomy
Ophisauriscus was named by Kühn (1940). It is not extant. Its type is Ophisauriscus quadrupes.

It was synonymized subjectively with Ophisaurus by McDowell and Bogert (1954).

It was assigned to Lacertilia by Kuhn (1964); to Anguinae by Estes (1983), Sullivan (1987); and to Anguidae by Carroll (1988).
