It was assigned to Parasaniwidae by Estes (1964), Estes and Berberian (1970); to Helodermatidae by Estes (1983), Carroll (1988), Bryant (1989), Gao and Fox (1996), Peng et al. (2001); to Platynota by Longrich et al. (2012); and to Monstersauria by Yi and Norell (2013).
