Taxonomy
Telmasaurus was named by Gilmore (1943). It is not extant. Its type is Telmasaurus grangeri.
It was assigned to Saniwinae by Gilmore (1943) and McDowell and Bogert (1954); and to Varanidae by Estes (1983), Borsuk-Bialynicka (1984), Carroll (1988), Alifanov (1993), Clos (1995) and Alifanov (2000).
