Thalassonerita eocenica was named by Squires and Goedert (1996). Its type specimen is LACMIP 11426, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CSUN Loc. 1583 - Humptulips River [Humptulips Fm], which is in a Lutetian deep subtidal siltstone/sandstone in the Humptulips Formation of Washington.
