Gobiderma was named by Borsuk-Bialynicka (1984). It is not extant. Its type is Gobiderma pulchra.

It was assigned to Platynota by Borsuk-Bialynicka (1984); to Diploglossa by Carroll (1988); to Varanoidea by Gao and Fox (1996); to Necrosauridae by Alifanov (1993), Alifanov (2000); and to Monstersauria by Gao and Norell (2000), Yi and Norell (2013).
