Acresuchus was named by Souza-Filho et al. (2019). Its type is Acresuchus pachytemporalis.

It was assigned to Caimaninae by Souza-Filho et al. (2019); and to Jacarea by Rio and Mannion (2021).

Synonyms

Caiman niteroiensis was named by Souza Filho and Bocquetin (1991). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Niteroi, which is in a Tortonian fluvial-lacustrine claystone/conglomerate in the Solimões Formation of Brazil.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Negri and Ferigolo (1999); it was considered a nomen nudum by Souza-Filho et al. (2019).
Caiman pachytemporalis was named by Souza-Filho (1998).
