Polymita texana was named by Roth (1984). Its type specimen is TMM 40276-1, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Candelaria (TMM 40276), which is in an Uintan terrestrial horizon in the Colmena Tuff Formation of Texas.
