Taxonomy
Xilousuchus was named by Wu (1981). Its type is Xilousuchus sapingensis. It was considered monophyletic by Nesbitt et al. (2011), Nesbitt (2011).
It was assigned to Proterosuchidae by Wu (1981), Carroll (1988); to Poposauroidea by Nesbitt (2011); to Ctenosauriscidae by Butler et al. (2011); and to Ctenosauriscidae by Nesbitt et al. (2011).
