Taxonomy
Cucullaea (Idonearca) buttensis was named by Anderson (1958). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCLA loc. 3648, Fossil Bluff, West side of Chico Creek, which is in a Campanian coastal sandstone in the Chico Formation of California.

Anderson 1958 | Test thick, shell triangular in outline, as seen from the side; umbones high, broad, rounded, inflated; beaks central, or a little in advance of center, incurved, approximate, nearly touching, or less than 8 mm apart; posterior umbonal ridge somewhat angulate, with an abrupt posterior slope, more rounded in front; sides of valves slightly flattened; base of shell broadly rounded. Surface of shell smooth, though marked by numerous concentric lines of growth and by radial lines, the latter most clearly seen on the posterior part of the shell ; base broadly rounded. |
