Gracilisuchus was named by Romer (1972). It is not extant. Its type is Gracilisuchus stipanicicorum. It was considered monophyletic by Nesbitt (2011).
It was assigned to Ornithosuchidae by Romer (1972), Bonaparte (1975); to Rauisuchia by Parrish (1993); to Suchia by Sereno (1991), Nesbitt (2011); and to Gracilisuchidae by Carroll (1988), Butler et al. (2014), Müller (2024).
