It was assigned to Mystriosuchidea by Huene (1922), Case (1922); to Mystriosuchidae by Kuhn (1971); to Phytosauridae by Watson (1917), Kuhn (1964), Carroll (1988), Hunt and Lucas (1989); to Parasuchia by Sereno (1991); to Mystriosuchinae by Long and Murry (1995); to Pseudopalatinae by Hungerbühler (2002), Stocker (2010), Stocker and Butler (2013); and to Mystriosuchini by Kammerer et al. (2016).
